Factory Lisbon Achieves 100% Occupancy with the Arrival of Two New Education Hubs

School 42 and TUMO join the innovative ecosystem of companies and start-ups already present in the building

The projects will occupy the building's largest unit, totaling 2000 square meters

Factory Lisbon, an innovation and entrepreneurship campus in the Beato Innovation District managed by global real estate company Jamestown in partnership with Factory International, is now fully occupied. School 42 and TUMO have signed a lease for the largest unit of the development totaling 2,000 square meters.

Both organizations, internationally recognized for their contribution to unique learning and reskilling programs, will have education hubs in the building, where they will develop their programs to share them among the residents of the Portuguese capital.

School 42, which has more than 18,000 students in more than 30 countries, is a free program for people over 18 years old with a background or experience in programming. TUMO is an educational program aimed at students between the ages of 12 and 18, focusing on teaching skills at the intersection of technology and creativity, ranging from photography and animation, to programming and robotics.

The arrival of these two innovative educational centers at Factory Lisbon will contribute to solidifying the building's position as an innovation hub, complementing the vibrant ecosystem of start-ups and technology companies already present at the building. With this lease, Factory Lisbon now hosts 12 innovative companies in the building: Web Summit, Unicorn Factory Lisboa, Interactive Technologies Institute (from Instituto Superior Técnico), Sixt, Midwich Portugal, Inetum, Microharvest, GWEC - Global Wind Energy Council, Foodriders, The Royal Rawness, and now, School 42 and TUMO.

Factory Lisbon is an integral part of the Beato Innovation District, which promotes entrepreneurship and creativity and is managed by Unicorn Factory Lisboa and Startup Lisboa. Factory Lisbon has positioned itself as a space for collaboration among companies from various sectors, much like Jamestown’s other property in Lisbon, IDB Lisbon (Innovation and Design Building in Lisbon).

In addition to the 8,000 square meters of office space which accommodates 700 employees simultaneously in the building, Factory Lisbon also has areas dedicated to the public, including one of the largest rooftops in Southern Europe (with over 2,000 square meters), and several food and beverage options including Mexican concepts Duro de Matar and Las Gringas, and The Royal Rawness café, which offers workers and the local community a wide variety of locally roasted and ground coffees, as well as a selection of pastries and light meals.

Since entering the European real estate market in 2019, Jamestown has acquired approximately EUR 1 billion in assets under management in Europe (as of 31 March 2024) and continues to seek investment opportunities across the continent. Jamestown’s European holdings total approximately 350.000 square meters and include 14 properties across 13 cities and six countries.

With over 40 years of experience in the international market, Jamestown has a long-term ownership and management perspective and is well known for revitalizing historic buildings into mixed-use innovation hubs and community centers.

Jamestown is working to create a global network of innovation hubs focusing on tech, media, gaming, and climate initiatives. European properties under management include Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam, a portfolio of buildings in Amsterdam’s Schinkel District, the Innovation and Design Building Lisbon, Factory Lisbon, Schanzenstrasse, and CIC Berlin. In the U.S., Jamestown is known for One Times Square in New York, Industry City in Brooklyn, and Ponce City Market in Atlanta.
